"Deep" means lamp, and *Deepawali* signifies rows of lamps. We celebrate Deepawali by lighting rows of lamps in our homes.
Every once in a while, when you light an electric lamp, you say, *Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya*—"Lead me from darkness to light."
This means moving from **darkness to clarity**, from **confusion to understanding**, from **illusion to truth**.
In darkness, we can only imagine, as we are unable to see anything clearly, leaving us confused. In light, however, we can see the truth with clarity and direction.
Darkness isn’t limited to our homes and surroundings; it can also exist in our relationships. Until there is light, the darkness in relationships often remains hidden.
So, during Deepawali, as you light a lamp, also wish for the darkness to be dispelled from your relationships. Only then will you begin to see and understand the true needs of the people around you.
Once you understand the needs of others, the darkness in your relationships will begin to fade.

The word "Deep" means "lamp," and *Deepawali* signifies rows of lamps. We celebrate the festival of Deepawali by lighting rows of lamps in our homes and surroundings to dispel darkness and bring light all around.
Whenever we light an electric lamp, we often recite the line, *Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya*—meaning, "Lead me from darkness to light."
This phrase is more than just words; it is a profound prayer, a call for an inner journey. It means **moving from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge**, **transitioning from confusion to clarity**, **leaving behind illusion to reach the truth**.
In darkness, we can only imagine, as we cannot see anything clearly; everything remains blurry and confusing. This obscurity clouds our thoughts and entangles us in a web of uncertainty. But in light, everything comes into view with clarity. We can perceive the truth in all its depth and reality, with every detail falling into place.
Darkness is not confined only to our homes, surroundings, or environment; it can also exist within our minds, our thoughts, and our relationships. This darkness of relationships can sometimes create gaps between us and our loved ones because we fail to understand their feelings and needs. Until we bring light into our relationships, this darkness remains unseen and unaddressed.
So, as you light each lamp this Deepawali, also carry in your heart a wish for the darkness to be removed from your relationships. With each illuminated lamp, make a silent resolve to bring clarity into your relationships. This light will allow you to see the genuine needs of those around you and understand their unspoken words.
As we begin to truly understand the needs of others, the shadows of ignorance and confusion gradually fade from our relationships. Then, and only then, can we fill our relationships with the light of understanding, acceptance, and harmony. Let this Deepawali become a festival not only of dispelling external darkness but also of illuminating the shadows within us and our relationships—that would be the truest Deepawali celebration.
