Sanskrit - 3rd BCE Presence Evidence

Sanskrit - 3rd BCE Presence Evidence

There are several misconceptions about the history of Sanskrit, one of which is that the Sanskrit language emerged in the 8th or 9th century. A primary reason for this belief is that people assume Sanskrit was written in the Devanagari script and not in the Brahmi script. Based on this assumption, many historians and linguists conclude that Sanskrit must have originated in the 8th or 9th century.

However, this perspective is incorrect. In reality, the history of Sanskrit is much older, and there is evidence from as early as the 3rd century BCE in Indian history. The Yashodharman inscription supports this, as it dates back to the 3rd century and is written in the Sanskrit language using the Brahmi script. This demonstrates that Sanskrit was in use even then and was written in the Brahmi script.

There are many other pieces of evidence that support the ancient origins of Sanskrit. Some notable examples include:

1. **The Spitzer Manuscript**: This is an ancient handwritten text composed in Sanskrit, believed to date back to the 2nd or 3rd century BCE. This manuscript provides a detailed account of the philosophy and grammar of its time, proving that Sanskrit’s history is far older than the 8th century.

2. **The Hathivada Ghosundi Inscription**: This inscription, also written in Sanskrit, is believed to be from the 3rd century. It describes the administration of the kingdom and other important matters, showing that Sanskrit was used as a medium for law and governance at that time.

3. **The Dadhimati Temple Inscription**: An inscription found in the Dadhimati temple in Nagaur, dated to the 3rd century BCE, is written in Sanskrit. It describes the worship of the goddess Dadhimati and the significance of the temple. This is further evidence that Sanskrit was an important language in religious and social contexts during that period.

Based on this evidence, it is clear that the history of Sanskrit is not limited to the 8th or 9th century. This language was in use as early as the 3rd century BCE or even earlier. The Devanagari script emerged later, but that does not mean Sanskrit did not exist before then. Ancient scripts like Brahmi were used to write Sanskrit, and the language was not only used in religious texts but also in royal inscriptions and legal systems.

All this evidence shows that the development of Sanskrit was part of an ancient and rich tradition, which is a significant aspect of India's cultural heritage.

##############

Sanskrit 8 ya 9 th Century me ayi hai aisa log manata hai jiska adhar ye mante hai ki-

Devnagri me likhi jati

Brahmi me nahi likhi jati

Isliye Sanskrit 8 ya 9 th Century me ayi hai lekin ye sahi nahi hai.

Yashodharman abhilek hai 3rd century ka vo bhi sanskrit bahni me likha hua milata hai.

Isake alava kai dher sare praman milate hai jo 3rd century se lekar 8th century me milata hai.

Jaise ki-

Spitzer manuscript,

Hathivada ghoshudi abhilekh,

Dadhimati description jo Nagaur ke mandir me milata hai.

Ye sabhi sanskrit ke 3rd BCE ke praman hi hai.
